Logistics and Refurbishment:
How to Get
the Most Out of Your Technology Investment
by Patty Howe, National
Business Development Manager
In
this tough economic environment, its more important than ever to get the
most out of your Auto ID or point of sale equipment investment. Many options
exist for repair and logistics, and the choices can be confusing. Through
our service division, Compsee is a cost-effective resource
for your service needs.
Instead of a cookie-cutter approach, we customize services to your
companys requirements. Each project is unique in scope and approach. Our
flexible response adds value to your equipment deployments. From simply
storing equipment or parts for shipment to your locations as needed, to
providing full integration services prior to shipment we can do what you
need.
Here is a breakdown of services that we offer through our service
division.
-
Depot Repair & Maintenance As a
cost-saving alternative to on-site support, depot maintenance is for
products that can be replaced on a next business day basis, rather than
needing to be replaced or repaired within hours. Our
sophisticated depot program includes problem reporting, replacement
shipping, repair, and spares/pool planning and maintenance. Two types of
depot maintenance are available: Standard Return & Repair, and Advanced
Exchange. With Advanced Exchange, you receive a replacement for a failed
unit by the next business day. Depot maintenance is best for products
and peripherals that can be easily de-installed and installed.
-
Staging When we stage your
solution, it arrives at your installation site already inventoried,
assembled, loaded with software, configured, tested and asset tagged.
Your equipment arrives fully functional so it can be quickly and
accurately installed. When you have multiple sites with different
requirements, we can customize your staged equipment by site. Doing a
phased implementation? We provide bulk storage and fast shipping from
one of our three service locations in the Louisville, Seattle or Los
Angeles areas.
-
Direct Reinstallation If your
equipment does not need to be refurbished or reconfigured, and can be
used in a new location without modifications, direct reinstallation is
the right choice. We ship your assets directly to another location for
re-installation in as is condition.
-
Preservation Preservation
services include reconditioning and redeployment. We receive your
equipment, evaluate it for defects, do a surface cleaning, and then test
it. We can do repairs, too. Preservation services can extend the life of
your equipment and reduce downtime.
-
Refurbishment One step beyond
preservation, refurbishment means we restore your equipment to like
new condition. Our redeployment experts deep surface clean the units,
repaint them, replace worn parts, apply required or recommended
engineering modifications and test the units.
-
Upgrades When you have many
sites, a large number of assets, or dont want to hassle with applying
hardware or software upgrades, let us do it for you at our redeployment
center.
-
Warehousing / Storage For long or
short term storage, we can warehouse your equipment in our secure
locations. Warehousing services include inventory reports. When your
equipment is needed, we pack, label and ship it for you.
-
Disposal / Donate When it is time
to dispose of old equipment, let us handle it for you. Our disposal
services comply with all environmental regulations.
-
Key Injection If you have payment
terminals, you know that you need key injection. POSDATA is a
TG-3-certified key injection organization and a key holder for more than
80 keys. By meeting the TG-3 standard, POSDATA is authorized by Visa and
MasterCard to key payment terminals, and is a key holder for many of the
major processors, including FDMS, Fifth Third, Chase/Paymentec.
When you choose Compsee services, you get great service and also great
communication. Our web portal and automated transaction gateway gives you
real time visibility into your orders, repairs, shipments and inventories.
The automated transaction gateway can provide an interface between your
enterprise system and our database.

The Future of Retail
Product Identification
by
Steven Krechmer, VP Consumables
A new type of bar code, GS1
DataBar, has been approved for marking trade items in the retail supply
chain. GS1, the global retail standards-setting organization formerly known
as EAN International and Uniform Code Council, has set January 1, 2010 as
the sunrise mandate for global adoption of this new bar code type.
As of 2010 all manufacturers,
worldwide, will have the option of marking their packages with GS1 DataBar
codes as an alternative to the EAN/UPC bar codes used today. Retailers
must be ready to scan these packages at the point-of-sale, on the shelf, in
the stockroom, and elsewhere within their logistics systems.
This change is a critical step
that enables future standards improvements for several important retail
applications, such as coupons and marking of fresh foods.
