Cingular AirCard 775 Installation Notes

  • Installation requires about 4Mb storage space. It is advisable to install the application to the SD card.

  •  If there is an existing AirCard installation on the MAT remove it from Settings/Control panel/Remove Programs. You may encounter error messages for files being in use if the unit has the card in it; press ok to ignore the error messages.  See uninstalling section below for uninstalling.

For initial installation or when there is not a card in the unit, there should not be any error messages.

  • Copy the CAB file, E4.0.0-Build-0058_ENU_CENET_ARMV4.CAB, to an SD-MMC card. There are two ways that can be done:
  1. Copy while the SD card is in MAT Unit should be connected with ActiveSync. Copy and paste the file to the SD MMC Card folder.

  2. Copy the file to the card using a PC card adapter Insert the card into the adapter and place the adapter into a PCMCIA slot of the host. Copy and paste the file to the SD card

  • After the CAB file is on the SD card, go to My Computer/SD MMC Card folder and double tap to start installation. If this is a reinstallation, click on OK when it asks to reinstall.

  • Select the installation folder. It defaults to \Program Files\AirCard7XX.  Using the back icon, browse to the SD card. You should see \SD MMC Card\ path and AirCard7XX as folder name. Tap OK to proceed.

  • Upon completion of installation, it will prompt you to tap on OK to reboot the device.

  •  When the unit is restarted, run \Start\programs\Sierra AirCard7XX Watcher to connect to the Cingular network.

Uninstalling AirCard775 software from MAT

While the card is in the device, its drivers are loaded in ROM. The software can be removed from the Control Panel/Remove Programs; however, this does not clean up the registry or the folders.  The following registry entries should be deleted manually to allow reinstallation.

      Procedure:

  • Connect the MAT to the host with ActiveSync.

  • Using a registry editor, delete the following registry keys:

  KEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SwiSerial710

  HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\Comm\Acgprs

  HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\Comm\Acgprs1

  HKEY-LOCAL-MACHINE\Drivers\PCMCIA\Sierra_Wireless-AC775-F092

  • Restart MAT. You should be able to reinstall the 775 software without problems.

Troubleshooting notes:

  • The Access Point Name, APN, must be Proxy in the connection settings. This is a default value; however, if it gets changed to something else, there will be an icon with a question mark in the center. This indicates that the card is detected but there is no communications with the card. Check the APN in that case.

  • All other settings are factory settings.
