This new release provides improved terminal operation
in six different areas. Those areas include:
1) Memory Test Improvements
The Apex II Memory Test has been improved to provide better
feedback to the operator on Apex II memory configuration.
When initially powering-on the Apex II this new operating
system will perform a memory test to ensure the Apex II can
correctly access all available memory. Should the unit encounter
an error in the Apex II memory the unit will display an error
message to inform the operator.
2) Error 20 Notification
The Apex II will now issue an "error 20" whenever there is
an attempt to communicate over an incorrectly configured serial
port while in the immediate mode.
3) Program Loading
Version 2.16b incorporates a "check routine" that monitors
where applications programs are loading into memory. If the
operator attempts to load an application that is larger than
the available memory the Apex II will report an Error 11 (out
of program memory). This check routine protects your data
files by ensuring that no program files can extend into and
potentially overwrite the data file storage area.
4) Parentheses Operations
The parenthesis handling routine had been amended to ensure
more predictable operation when parenthesis extended both
below and above address 10000h.
5) "Sleep-Mode" Operations
Every 7.5 seconds an interrupt is generated by the wakeup
circuitry in the APEX II. This interrupt is used to power
down the unit after a user defined period of time. To ensure
more reliable and predictable results we have made improvements
that will completely restore internal memory and totally re-write
the LCD with the same information that was present prior to
entering into the "sleep mode".
6) Saving Files to Flash
The Apex II with 512K Flash* has 126k of unused Flash memory
that can be conveniently used for non-volatile file storage.
Data from a RAM file can easily be stored in this area. Operating
system version 2.16b ensures a more reliable file save operation.
NOTE:
Make sure that all files have been retrieved/downloaded prior
to an operating system update. The update will overwrite all programs
and files in the unit.
