Compsee announces the release of Version 2.17b Operating System for the Apex II Portable Data Terminal with 512K FLASH memory configurations.
This new release provides improved terminal operation in four different areas. Those areas include:

Turkish Special Character Set

Prevention of modification to SCNSTSS bit 6 through SYSPARMS

PEEK range check correction

Details for each improvement is as follows:
Turkish Special Character Set
As an extension to SRS-002 (Special Character Sets as implemented in v2.13b).
Note: This applies to OS Version 2.17b only. Special character sets are not included in OS Version a.
The Turkish character set is accessed using SYSPARMS ,,,,,,,,,,,,4.
SYSPARMS Modification
v2.11b of the OS utilized a previously unused bit in SCNSTS5 to direct the OS to perform serial data reception through the wand port. No checking was performed in the SYSPARMS to prevent the application program from altering this bit, and resulted in improper operation of the Apex II. This release of the OS prevents the application program from altering the state of SYSPARMS.
Note: This applies to OS Version b units only.
PEEK Range Check Correction
This problem was first discovered when PEEK-ing data from a file and comparing it with the data READ from the file. It was noticed that several blocks of PEEK data did not correspond with the READ data.
The correct implementation of the range check is incorporated in version 2.17b.
Algorithm Enhancements
Enhancements were made to the UPC, Code 128 and Matrix 2 of 5 Apex II symbology algorithms

Availability of Version 2.17b
To enable these useful new features, simply download for free from Compsee's web site version 2.17b of the Apex II Operating System. Then load the new operating system into your Apex II.
Instructions are included in with the Operating System Upgrade for specifics on syntax and technical instruction on how to access this area of memory.

NOTE: Make sure that all files have been retrieved/downloaded prior to an operating system update. The update will overwrite all programs and files in the unit.

How to determine is your unit is an "a or "b" -
Put the unit into immediate Mode

To obtain the version and operating systems level
Alt V (the information will be displayed for 2 seconds)
To restart the program
