Common Applications
RFDC is the communications technology of choice for manufacturing,
warehousing, distribution, and logistics management, where it
is used (most often with barcode scanning) to direct receiving,
storage, retrieval, physical inventories, order picking, pick-slot
replenishment, shipping, tracking returns, labeling, and other
applications. RFDC is also used on the factory floor for applications
such as work-in-process tracking, and labeling, and in hospitals
for tracking pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. On the retail
side, radio frequency terminals are increasingly used for price
verification, order entry at POS, and direct store delivery.
Wide-area radio networks are used in transportation for fleet
dispatch and in field applications such as sales, service, and
public safety where interactive communications with the host
computer are a priority.
