Compsee Releases Cable Eliminator Transceiver (C.E.T)
Provides Low-Cost Solution to Real-Time Data Communications
Mt. Gilead, North Carolina - August 27, 1999 - Compsee,
a leading total solutions provider of automatic data capture systems,
today announced the release of the Cable Eliminator Transceiver
to transform the Apex II data collection terminal and other devices
into affordable wireless communication tools.
The Cable Eliminator Transceiver (C.E.T) converts batch applications
into a wireless application with only minor programming changes.
It speeds up transactions of all types, communicating at data rates
of 300 to 19,200 baud, and makes the data instantly accessible to
the host. Weighing no less than two ounces, the matchbox-sized unit
is a cost-effective means of transferring data to and/or from the
Apex II RS232 port via the 900 MHz band to any other equally equipped
RS-232 device.
In addition, with the Cable Eliminator Transceiver, users can print
bar code labels to a serial printer located up to 400 feet away
or be hooked directly to portable battery powered scanners for a
low-cost solution to wireless scanning. Multiple C.E.T.'s can also
be "daisy-chained" to increase the working range.
"This handy devices opens up a whole new range of applications,"
said Billy Graham, VP Marketing for Compsee. "Companies that
previously could not afford to embark on RF-based data collection
now can do so with ease. Warehouses and distribution centers using
batch systems now can transmit real-time data to the host system
for immediate inventory updates and put-away tracking. This is a
product our customers, resellers and systems integrators have been
asking for because it opens up the advantages of real-time data
collection to the small-to-medium business that previously could
not afford it."
The battery-less device uses only a few milliwatts of power from
the DTR signal on any RS-232 port. It operates in temperatures ranging
from -40 to 85C. Each transceiver is unit addressable,
enabling up to 254 remotes to communicate with a single host.
The C.E.T. comes with Windows 95/98 compatible AddressNet Software
to configure and test the communication protocols. Using a GUI interface,
users can modify data format, baud rate, handshaking protocol and
the transmit/receive address for each transceiver simply with the
point and click of a mouse unit.
The C.E.T. is available immediately.
