Models include those that "read" bar code labels at contact or up to 35 feet away. Advanced optics allow users to "read" very small bar codes, like those found on the edge of printed circuit boards, or very large ones as seen on the side of a vehicle. Among the newest models are those that read 2 dimensional bar codes and capture images such as signatures. Handheld readers are designed for every application and can be used outdoors as well as indoors.
