SELFRIDGES OPTS FOR WELCH ALLYN SCANNERS IN NEW TRAFFORD CENTRE
STORE
Leading
data capture specialist Welch Allyn UK Limited has won a contract
for SCANTEAMTM 3400LR bar code scanners from Selfridges, one
of the UK's premier department stores. The new scanners are
being used in Selfridges' first store outside London, located
within one of Europe's largest shopping malls - Manchester's
recently opened Trafford Centre.
The Welch Allyn SCANTEAM 3400LR is a special purpose hand-held
CCD (charge coupled device) scanner, designed to read medium
density bar codes at distances of up to seven inches. It provides
rapid scanning, including easy reading of long bar codes, and
can be used in full sunlight.
The scanners ordered by Selfridges are connected directly to
the tills in the new store. The Point Of Sale information scanned
by the Welch Allyn units is sent to the till and later fed directly
to Selfridges' Buying and Merchandising System, to facilitate
stock control.
Pam Nevard, Business Information Manager for Selfridges, comments:
"We have always used Welch Allyn scanners in our Oxford
Street store, and they have proved to be very good and very
reliable. We wanted the best possible scanners for our new Trafford
Centre store, so we opted for Welch Allyn's SCANTEAM 3400LRs.
These provide the speed and accuracy we need, and take us forward
while keeping the new store in line with the system used at
our Oxford Street premises."
Selfridges was founded in 1909 by Gordon Selfridge, with the
aim of changing the face of retail shopping. Covering an area
of 200,000 square feet, the new Selfridges is the Trafford Centre's
anchor store, and is the company's first move into multi-site
retailing.
