1. My Apex screen has black squares all over the screen.

The contrast has been adjusted too far one way and can be corrected by pressing the [ALT] key and the letter [J]. The user may have to press the [J] key several times to get the screen back to normal. Try this complete process at least two times. Do not hold down the [ALT] key. Just press and release, then press the [J] key a few times. If this doesn’t work, you can then try to shut down the unit and perform a REBOOT. Turn the unit off, hold down the [ALT] key and the [.] key and then turn the unit on. If you have important data, you will then have to use the ARECOVER.EXE program to retrieve the data. This must be done before you reload the program or before you restart the program with the [ALT] key and the [R] key. If the problem still persists, contact Compsee Technical Support for further options.

2. My Apex screen comes up with no letters displayed at all.

This in turn could be the opposite of the last question. The [ALT] key and the letter [I] should do just the opposite. When the unit is first powered on it may show the first one and a half rows as solid black blocks. This is an indication that the contrast has been adjusted too light.

3. The display comes up with some strange characters along with readable letters as well.

This could be a display problem and will most likely need to be returned. This first thing to try would be to REBOOT the unit and clear the program. If the unit has a custom code in it the user needs to load the APEXTRAK.APX program. If the problem persists, contact Compsee Technical Support.

4. The unit displays an E 12 L 200, then the E stands for error and the L stands for line. This may be seen more often on an Apex II that contains a hand written code.

Below the error line there should be a greater than sign [>]. Type the word [QUIT] and press [ENTER]. Then press the [ALT] key and release. Press the [R] key to start running the program.

5. There is a problem with the Apex display.

All display problems should be able to be corrected by rebooting the unit. If this doesn't take care of the problem, then the unit may need to be sent in. Contactl Compsee Technical Support for further instructions.

6. I was in the middle of scanning and my scanner came up with the Copyright Compsee, Inc. screen.

Press the [ALT] key and release it. Then press the [R] key to restart the program.

7. How to I get my Apex II into immediate mode?

Press and hold the [ALT] key and then press the [C] key. The unit will display "Press Enter" - (do not press the enter key).

Press the [ALT] key again and then release it. Press the [D] key. The unit will display, for example "*BREAK 630*" (630 is the line number that the program stopped). After the greater than sign [>], type "QUIT" and press [ENTER}. The unit is now in Immediate Mode.

8. The laser won’t come on after the program is loaded.

Integrated Laser: The program may not be setup to allow for input from a scanner. Reboot the unit and press the Laser key. If the laser is still inactive, contact Compsee Technical Support.

Detached Scanner: Press the [ALT} key, release it and then press the [W] key.

9. The detached scanner still will not work after the [ALT] [W] keys have been pressed.

Reboot the unit with the scanner connected. Press [ALT] [W] keys. Then press the SCAN button on the Apex II and the trigger on the detachable scanner (if applicable). If the scanner works at this point, the problem is within the program. If the scanner does not work, then contact Compsee Technical Support. The pin-outs for the scanner may be incorrect or the scanner may not be designed to work with the Apex II.

10. The ApexII with detachable scanner only works when the scanner button is pressed and held while the laser trigger is pressed.

The program in the unit does not contain a wand statement. The program should have the statement that reads [WAND X]. The "X" equals the amount of seconds for the scanner to stay active after the SCAN button is pressed. "X" should be set between 1 and 255. If this time expires before another bar code is scanned, the user will have to press the SCAN button on the Apex to restart the timer.

11. The scanner light stays on after I scan a barcode and won’t shut off until I power the unit off.

Reboot the unit and then a barcode to see if the laser goes off after it reads the code. If it does not turn off, then it problem within the program. If this is not the case, the unit needs to be returned for repair. Contact Compsee Technical Support.
