Each Apex VM-1 comes complete with Compsee's Web Server Web-enabling technology.
This Web server allows an administrator with the correct password to manage the Apex VM-1
terminal from a remote computer with a Web browser, eliminating the need for a proprietary
system management package. Entering a terminal's IP address into the URL box of the
browser shows the main Remote Manager page, allowing upload and download of files,
configuration of barcode decoder parameters, even reboot of the terminal. From the
browser, applications can be stopped, and new applications can be launched. This high-value
management function comes standard on every Apex VM-1 terminal sold.
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is included with each Apex VM-1.
A Microsoft IE 4.0-compatible Web browser is available.
The Apex VM-1 has many standalone utilities (as well as SDK API's), for special
functions. These handy utilities include such things as controlling the LEDs, programming
function keys, synchronizing time of day, manipulating the digital I/O, wedging COM port
data into the keyboard buffer and much, much more.
Compsee offers optional terminal emulation software for those customers
who favor centralization. With terminal emulation, the Apex VM-1 can
emulate many popular character-mode and block-mode terminals,
such as VT, HP, IBM5250, and IBM3270.
