922 By-Pass
PSC Scanners Will Be Unaffected By Use Of
992 Bypass Validation Family Codes
PSC Scanners will continue to properly read all U.P.C. and EAN
codes when suppliers start using the 992 Bypass Validation Family
code starting 1/1/99.
On that date, retailers will be required to have programmed the
new logic for the 992 family code into their POS scanning systems.
Today, a manufacturer ID on a coupon occasionally may not match
the product it was designed to discount. That coupon cannot be
scanned or validated electronically. When included in the coupon
bar code, the new family code of �992� will bypass the traditional
purchase validation check, and permit non-validated coupon scanning
for specific circumstances and business requirements.
This new code does not effect existing PSC scanners that have
all have the capability to read the 992 code but may require programming
to enable the capability.
