VS1000/1200
Vertical Bar Code Scanners
Features & Benefits
Specially Designed Scan Pattern:
The scan pattern was designed to be used at a distance of 3"
(7.6 cm) directly in front of the scanner (the most intuitive
position) and to be aggressive on items swept in front of the
window.
The scanner was designed for use 3" (7.6cm) from the glass, but
has a depth of field of 6" - 8" (14 cm - 20 cm) to provide maximum
scan volume. The outer edges of the pattern do not extend beyond
the edge of the scanner; this minimizes unwanted reads. The scan
volume height is 6" (15.2 cm). This allows most items to be read
without tilting.
Wide Degree of Scanning Yaw:
The specially designed scan pattern minimizes the amount of orienting
the user must do to get a good read. The VS1200 can read ladder-oriented
labels at 110 from parallel to the face of the scanner. This
is far greater than what is possible by vertically mounting a
scanner designed for horizontal scanning.
High Performance Scanning with EDGE™:
Typical of a high performance PSC scanner, the VS1200 has the
ability to read torn, mutilated, overprinted and underprinted
labels. This increases throughput and ease of use.
Compact Size:
Height = 6.0" (15.2 cm) / Width = 6.5" (16.5 cm) / Depth =
4.3" (11.0 cm)
This optimized size allows for easy installation where space
is at a premium, such as in European or Asian checkouts. The 6"
(15.2 cm) height was designed to enable a keyboard to be placed
over the scanner and still meet current ergonomic standards.
Changeable Exterior Glass:
Because even the exterior windows of vertical scanners take abuse,
PSC made it easy and inexpensive for the customer to change this
glass. Simply lift the scanner from the mount and move one latch
to change the glass. And for customers such as high volume grocery,
PSC offers a Tin Oxide Glass option, which can be ordered at any
time. This is the same Tin Oxide used in many horizontal scanners
to improve scratch resistance.
Integrated Mount:
The VS1200 comes with a standard mount that was designed to provide
several benefits:
-
Provide a secure vertical or horizontal mount
to keep the product in place.
-
Cover unattractive I/O connections for those
applications where the scanner is to be mounted in the customers'
view.
-
Direct the cabling either out the back of or
down below the scanner.
Undecoded Scanner Port:
This port allows the customer to connect a handheld to the POS
system via the VS1200 rather than using an additional POS port.
Handhelds are used in conjunction with fixed scanners in environments
where the flexibility of a handheld is needed in addition to the
performance of a fixed scanner.
For example, in food or DIY stores where large items are left
on the cart or trolley because of their size, it is much more
ergonomic to scan these items with a hand held rather than lifting
them, and faster than keying in by hand.
Sleep Mode/Wake-Up:
As with all newer PSC scanners the VS1200 is designed to turn
itself off in stages: first the VLD and then the
motor. This extends the life of critical components and reduces
power consumption. The VS1200 uses an ambient light sensor to
"wake the scanner up". Any change in ambient light (such as an
item or hand being moved in front of the window) will turn the
unit back on.
Universal Power Adapter:
The power adapter works with all standard primary power sources
from 90V to 230V and 50 or 60 cycles. This will benefit those
distributors who want flexibility in their inventory. The user
only needs to change the input power cord for different countries.
Integrated EAS Option (Electronic Article Surveillance):
The VS1200 can be ordered with an integrated EAS antenna for
use with Checkpoint System IV tag deactivation system. This eliminates
costly field upgrades, which can interrupt the flow of business.
Other suppliers may be added in the future. If the decision is
made later to install a Checkpoint System IV, this option is available
as a field upgrade kit; see your service provider for details.
Programmable Features:
The VS1200 can be programmed to meet the specific needs of end
users. Programmable features include such items as:

for details.
Special Concentrated 20 Line Scan Pattern:
This dense scan pattern provides the end user with the maximum
reading capability for highly truncated or fine pitch labels typically
found in drug and pharmacy stores. As a label is presented to
the scanner, the lines converge and sweep across it, assuring
a read every time.
Wide Degree of Scanning Yaw:
The specially designed scan pattern minimizes the amount of orienting
the user must do to get a good read. The VS1000 can read ladder-oriented
labels at 110 from parallel to the face of the scanner. This
is far greater than what is possible by vertically mounting a
scanner designed for horizontal scanning.
5" (12.7 cm) Depth-of-Field:
The depth-of-field for the VS1000 was specifically set at 5"
(12.7 cm) to provide a reasonable scan volume, but not so far
that the scanner reads items unintentionally. The end user benefits
by having a scanner designed for smaller cash-wraps.
Four Code Autodiscrimination:
The VS1000 can automatically read and discriminate a maximum
of four different codes. Thus, the end user can have a
mix of code types for different applications and still read them
all with one scanner.
Compact Size:
Height = 6.0" (15.2 cm) / Width = 6.5" (16.5 cm) / Depth =
And for customers such as high volume grocery, PSC offers a Tin
Oxide Glass option, which can be ordered at any time. This is
the same Tin Oxide used in many horizontal scanners to improve
scratch resistance.
