Now you've chosen to find out who we are.....
Compsee, Inc., is both a manufacturer and distributor of various bar code products and printers. The company was formed in 1981 as a subsidiary of McRae Industries of Mt. Gilead, NC. McRae industries is a public company trading on the American Stock Exchange.
Compsee, Inc., has its own factory located in Mt. Gilead, NC. It is here that the corporate offices are located along with the engineering, manufacturing and administrative departments. Compsee's international sales and marketing department is located in Palm Bay, Florida. Regional sales offices are located in major cities throughout the United States.
Our first keyboard wedge originated from the need to capture piece work payroll information on the shop floor. With the wedge connected between the keyboard and the terminal, the supervisor merely scanned the data directly into the shop floor software. Data input via the wedge emulated key entry and increased the accuracy and timeliness of the data.
There's more to a Wedge than you might expect.....
Over the years, the Compsee Keyboard Wedge has taken on a variety of names and shapes. The original Series 300 & 600 were terminal specific units with limited programming (and about the size of the terminal itself). In 1986 the engineers developed the QuickReader a Universal Keyboard Wedge that though only a cable change and a programmed ID change, the unit could interface to numerous terminals. The program features were also expanded to meets the needs of the users who wanted more flexibility in the maniplation of the data being entered. The QuickReader now has over 300 different interfaces available (among the most in the industry) and the CAPE (Customer Applications Programmable Edits) feature. Couple this together with the speed of the system and the input device connectivity and you have a truly unique keyboard wedge in a highly competitive industry.
The next generation Compsee wedge - the QuickLink came along in 1989. It brought into the product line the in-line RS 232 interface capability along with the ability to manipulate the keyboard of any interface that the QuickLink was attached to.
Since this time, various models have been introduced to meet the demands of the PC marketplace. These have included the QuickLink 401 and The Bar Code Connector.
To say anything about Compsee, you have to say we know keyboard wedges - how they work, the applications that are best suited for them, and the extent to which data can be manipulated prior to being received by the terminal.
The Wedge needs an Input Source.....
A wedge by itself, is but one part of a bar code system. It must have some form of input device attached to it. Rather than rediscover the wheel, Compsee has agreements with selected manufacturers to supply quality input devices so that we might best meet the application needs. These items include wands, laser readers (both hand held and incounter type), CCD's, portables and printers. Compsee has selected specific vendors to supply these items based on the quality of their product, reliability, service, responsiveness and so on.
Great Combinations......
Evidence that we are very much in the business of meeting the changing needs of our customers, Compsee engineers worked closely with both PSC and Welch Allyn to integrate the Compsee Wedge into the handle of the reading devices. The outcome of their efforts is the successful LaserWedge and CCD Wedge product lines. The units combine the exceptional reading capabilities as designed by PSC and Welch Allyn with the interface connectivity and extense programming flexibility of a Compsee Wedge.
When application needs changed - we changed.....
Having always been in portable sales since the early days selling a variety of units that were on the market then, Compsee in 1987 began what was to become a long term association with Mars Electronics. The Mars MEQ portable terminals were the first integrated units on the market and the first to offer non-proprietary programming language - BASIC. The need to learn a new language just to program a portable terminal was eliminated. Over the years Compsee developed a series of application packages which include: Asset Track, Document Track, Tool Track and Inventory Track. In 1994, Mars Electronics International decided to pick a single company to be their national distributor for the MEQ terminals. Compsee was the choosen partner. Compsee continues to sell and distribute the Mars product line of portable terminals and has recently assisted in the design of the new MEQ 630 Series.
Portables - the wave of the future.....
Seeing the ever increasing market for portable terminals, in 1995 Compsee developed their own product line.... the APEX. The goal was to manfacture a complete portable bar code data collection terminal. We took the best qualities of terminals presently on the market, added a few of our own and came up with a comprehensive, affordable solution - the APEX II.
The APEX II was built for rugged user environments and designed to meet the performance criteria that called for a ready-to-use system.
Our engineering staff continues to improve the APEX with programming feature, design enhancements and user options that range for communications stations to unit covers.
